Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction Working Group: Driving Change
To deliver reductions in our carbon use we established an ‘Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction Working Group’. The terms of reference for the working group are;
Aim
To identify all options in properties owned by Outlook Care to:
- Agree most efficient, cost-effective energy procurement route.
- Generate energy for use in the property and/or generate a sustainable income through selling surplus energy back to the national grid.
- Be energy efficient in every way of working measured through real time reductions in our carbon footprint, energy/utility usage and cost.
- To become more informed and aware of energy efficiency/generation options open to us become ‘topic experts’ guided by experts in the field.
Approach
- Engage with specialist energy efficiency and energy generation consultants receiving advice on all options, our priority properties being Foxburrow Grange and St George’s.
- Report back to the Energy Efficiency/Generation Working Group with recommendations for action, including business case proposals for investment.
- Monitor progress through our Environmental Action Plan, specifically carbon reduction targets.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG)
Achievement to date.
We are pleased to have achieved a 96.77Tco2e in 2023/2024, a 16% reduction in oir 2021/2022 baseline, which is 11% higher than our planned annual 2% target, as outlined in our Environmental Policy.
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Outlook Care commits to reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions in half by 2030 from a 2020 baseline and is committed to measure and reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040. This action plan is monitored by our Board's Audit and Risk Committee.
All staff, customers and stakeholders in Outlook Care have an ongoing part to play in our carbon reduction plans and we are excited to see how far we can reduce our use next year.
